Be Still My Beating Heart: Library, Bread, and Fire Truck

Alex is at a Neil Young concert tonight, so the Bear and I are on our own. That means a couple of things. We eat bread for dinner (yes, just bread), but it is yummy leftover bread from Daddy. Here is a loaf.

Here is the Bear demonstrating how to transport it.

Besides the bread-only yummy dinner, going without Daddy also means that we get to stay extra long at the library. Yay for being back to our Monday and Wednesday nights at the library.

Independent reading (still one of Mommy's favorite activities for the Bear).

Then immediately helping himself to books on the shelf.
Now for something new. The Bear then helps himself to the magazine rack.

He chooses the magazines with the bear centerfold (an obvious choice for Mr. Bear).

He then puts it back on the rack and gets another magazine. Deep topic on the cover.

Here is the Bear up to his usual antics of identifying every animal on the carpet.

After checking out the Cats are from Venus and Dogs are from Mars, the Bear takes a break. And starts organizing all the stools.

He later sits on each stool, rotating with each new book. One of our books was about a cat. I asked the Bear what the pink shape was on the cat's shirt.

Not only does he tell me, "Heart," but he also points to where it is located and then starts making a beating motion.

I  am pretty impressed, but the Bear impresses me further. A boy who looks at least twice his age then starts make believing collecting tickets. He has gathered some stools and made a train. He comes over to collect Mr. Bear's ticket. The Bear looks confused but then actually gives the boy his make believe ticket. Love the imagination!

After we got home, Mr. Bear somehow finds the fire truck we had hidden. Alex and I had been weighing the pros and cons of whether to keep it (I had gotten it free from another mom). The Bear loves fire trucks but we are anti-anything big due to space. In the end, the Bear ended up finding the not so well hidden truck. I braced myself for some tantrums when I would need to pull him off the truck. Overall though the Bear followed directions for the diaper, tub, and bedtime rituals. Yay!
