Riding My Little Pony at the Figment Festival

Before date night yesterday (Midsummer Night's Dream performed by the NYC Ballet Company at Lincoln Center), we head to the Big Park at Washington Square where Bryson immediately shows off his rainbow bar climbing skills.

When we get home from the ballet, the babysitter tells Mommy and Daddy that the Bear is "brilliant" (she is Irish) and "his vocabulary is advanced. He can put together sentences and I understand him pretty clearly.) Mommy notices today that the Bear is not only using I but also contractions and verbs. As in, "I'm eating grapes. I'm hungry." Good stuff, Mr. Bear.

Today, we head to the Figment Festival on Governors Island. Now that we have our bikes, we can shorten the hour long subway commute to the ferry with a fun bike ride instead. After a bike ride, we head on the ferry and get to Governors Island in record time. Figment Festival is created by the same people who organize Burning Man - though this is much more family and kid friendly.

They have a kostume korner where they have donated new costumes from shops who have overstocked items. I give the Bear options of a dinosaur from Barney, a Peep chick (from Easter), and a Charlie Brown costume. Can you guess which one he chose based on his yellow shirt below? Daddy and the Bear are on a pony of some sort that reminds Mommy of an old My Little Pony she had when she was a kid.

Another one - this time in bright orange.

Lots of creative art at this festival including a life size giraffe.

There's mini-golf too. Though the Bear isn't quite ready for that one yet.

And an awesome treehouse made of recycled materials like old bedposts and tires.

Enjoying a snack. Mommy forgot the milk - thank goodness Daddy brought the grapes.

More treehouse.

The treehouse even has a slide.

Daddy is back there with the kids keeping them from jumping the line. Good policing, Daddy!

More art - this time King Kong. The Bear tells Daddy, "Scary!"

Another art exhibit - this time all made from plastic cups. Last year, they had an exhibit all made of milk jugs.

Manhattan skyline behind the boys.

Daddy tells the Bear that next up is the visit to the "Fuzzy thing." We don't know what it's called but it sure is fuzzy.

Flying through the fuzzy tunnel.

Treehouse behind.

There's water art (kids get to toss water toys too), lots of art projects to paint, draw, and write, a Love Yourself project to share what you love about yourself, tents, tire art, a dj, many people in costume, and even a musical instrument section. The Bear gets right into the drumming. Lolo would be proud of his use of Home Depot buckets here. Lola would be proud that there is even a rice cooker among the "instruments."

A circus with a tall man on sticks lets us know about a show that will be starting soon.

Heading back on the ferry to Manhattan.

Statue of Liberty in the middle of these boats.

Poor Mr. Bear - we are over an hour late for his nap. Resting his head on Daddy's back.

Movie with the Bear playing his drums.
