Mommy, I Love You and Where's Her Shirt?

The experience of having a kid keeps getting better and better. Today the Bear (without prompting) surprised Mommy by saying, "I love you, Momma."

Daddy makes a tofu scramble breakfast with carrots and kale. The Bear loves the tofu and eats almost all of it. Meanwhile, Daddy plays lots of indie rock videos including Band of Horses. Daddy often likes to say, "Now if this Bear isn't cool when he grows up, that's all him."

We hop on our bikes over the Williamsburg bridge and head over to see the art exhibit by Kara Walker's massive exhibit at the Domino Sugar Factory.

The exhibit features a massive exhibit of an African American woman, representing the many marginalized workers who pined away in the factories, supplying Americans with their good old white sugar.

Looking up at the factory.

Daddy and the Bear spot a mermaid mural.

The Bear rocks his Cleveland Indians look.

Complete with ball cap.

After a 25 minute minute wait, we get into the exhibit.

Inside the factory.

Everything is made of molasses and sugar, including this exhibit of this slave boy.

The Bear points out the forklift.

This poor exhibit melted - looks like molasses isn't as tough as expected, especially given the summer heat.

Someone volunteers to take a pic of the family. Yay!

Check out the Bear's silly expressions.

Love the rusty background.

The massive exhibit behind the boys.

Why are these people in line?

To look into the peep hole...

... of the Manhattan skyline. Mommy didn't quite get her settings right here :)

Detailed look at the sugar and molasses art.

Mommy wants to taste a bit of the cheek. But she is on Day 7 of this 30 day challenge. So no can do.

Arriving at the behemoth exhibit. Disclaimer - jump down a dozen photos or so if you don't like art that is racy.

The Bear takes a look. And is very, very distraught. Despite all the topless girls yesterday, the Bear is very, very concerned about why this woman does not have a shirt. The Bear frantically asks, "Where's her shirt? Where's her shirt?"

Going behind to the back.

Mr. Bear still very concerned, "Where's her shirt?"

From the rear, we realize that she doesn't have anything on. The Bear gets even more distraught and says, "Where's her shirt and pants and socks and shoes?" We try to explain to the Bear that sometimes people don't want to wear clothes. And that is ok.

Getting a close up look at the sugar.

Lots of people at the exhibit. Reminds Mommy of the reclining Buddha in Thailand. Except that one was gold. And also had clothes on. And was the Buddha.

Ooh puppets! Gotta love hipster Williamsburg.

Full look at the mermaid mural.

Here's the factory before it gets torn down. For housing. Though the mayor says that at least some of it will be affordable. Which means in New York lingo, that not every apartment will be over a million.
