As context, we have a habit of "racing" the Bear to the door, to the bath, to taking our shoes off... (whatever the case)... to try to motivate the Bear to move faster. In this example, they are racing to press the button for the elevator.
Alex: We are coming home and as usual, and I said “I’m going to press the button!”
Bryson: “Da da, it’s not a race”
I ran in but he just took his time
Bryson: “Da da, it’s not a race. Go back and walk in."
Man - where does he learn that stuff?
