Despite began vegan, I joined my parents and brother for a
morning of fishing at Boquilla. We went out on a canoe with a local fisherman
who showed us how to throw the nets and cash fish and crabs. He then taught us
how to set the traps putting the fish we had caught into the wire cages and
then throw the cages overboard for us to retrieve later. We ended up catching
over a dozen fish and two dozen crabs – which they then cooked for us and we
feasted next to the waterway (I of course had rice and fried plantains). Later,
we went out to the beach and propped up our feet in the hammocks and took a nap.
Meanwhile, Alex and the Bear slept in until 10am (late!) and
then walked on the historic wall. They met us later that afternoon and we took
a sunset canoe tour of the mangroves and admired the many birds. By the time we
got back to the city, it was time for dinner and we headed to D’ Alex
Restaurant for seafood – and (surprise) fried plantains and rice for Alex and
me.
