Bagel Tour of Lower East Side

After Daddy's yummy tofu scramble breakfast, we rush to our 10am Ben's Bagels Lower East Side tour. The Bear gets his very own bagel. He only dropped it a couple times (five second rule applies according to Mommy and Daddy) and almost finished all of it.

Here is Ben.

First stop is Yonah Schimmel's Knishery, where they make the best knishes in NYC (Forsythe & Houston).

The Bear still working on his bagel.

The Bear also tried some knish.

Mr. Bear spotted this old style fire truck.

This place is known for their smoked fish and vegan cream cheese.

Of course a tour of the LES would not be complete without a visit to Katz's.

The red square building and clock is in the background, with a statue of Lenin.

This synagogue used to be for religious purposes. Now it's just a facade with apartment buildings inside.

Walking down Orchard, closed Sundays so that we can walk on the street without cars.

This grocery is actually a night club. The LES is much more boutique and posh than a few years back.

One of the few original stores. This one sells fabric.

And has the signal on the door.

Another old store.

Cool graffiti.

Candy that the Bear will never try, thanks to Daddy's very healthy diet for him. (Mommy is relieved that she can buy and eat whatever she'd like.)

This market changed shopping from cart vendors to inside stalls.

Tenement housing where many Jews lived.

Famous pickle shop - according to Ben, this is the best in NYC.

Now time for bialys - thankfully vegan friendly.

Afterwards, we head to the subway where we spot some cherry murals.
