Guanajuato: Cueba, (Ice) Cream, and Candy

We could do food tours all day long! Gorditas nopales and tlacoya.

Tacos.

Ice cream. Thank goodness Alex isn't in Mexico with us. We seem to have ice cream every other day. That's not an exaggeration. That has meant we've gotten to try tons of flavors: bubble gum, dried fruit, rose petal, rice, guava, peppermint, mango, key lime... the list goes on and on. Bryson is the type of guy who changes his flavors each time. Scarlet and I, on the other hand, find one we love and stick with it, Scarlet with chocolate and me with key lime.

Where are these rancheros headed?

This is an annual tradition in the summer where the people in Guanajuato (and horses too) head up the Cueba. The legend is that there is a princess who will arrive at the top of the mountain, and some lucky hombre will need to rescue her and carry her down to the church. But beware, if he looks at her, she will go from a beautiful princess to a scary serpent.

Scarlet, Bryson, and I only made it partway up to the top. But Scarlet and Bryson were happy - there were plenty of rides, food, and games to play that kept them occupied.

Fizzy drink.

Long steep hike to the Cueba.

Scarlet is a big fan of face paint. Normally, it's a no, but I figured it was worth it since there was a big Cueba festival celebrating a Guanajuato legend.

Scarlet's face paint is inspired by Anna, from Frozen. In case you were wondering!

Each morning, our house mom, Senora Theresa, makes the kids french toast. The face is courtesy of Bryson.

Our favorite - El Dorado tacos.

Making their own clay with their teacher Paulette.

Candy class!

My favorites: jamocillo and paluquetria (probably spelling that wrong!)
