Guanajuato: The Finale, Estudiantina, Bye to Our Teachers and Senora

Our final week in Guanajuato. We meant to head to the mine (Guanajuato is a mining town), but unfortunately is only open on weekends. But not to fear because we had a good reason to get liquados and malteadas, Scarlet and Bryson's favorite smoothies. Here we are at Mercado Hidago with their friends Colton and Elena (parents Jose and Dana) from Truckee, near Reno, NV.

Every fall, Guanajuato hosts an international fair and invites another country to showcase their culture. This fall Spain is the invited country. Guanajuato is setting up the stage and doing a promo video.

We will miss the colorful homes!

Law school students at the University of Guanajuato have to battle not just the loads of reading but these massive steps.

The evening rains are intense. On the way home, we got caught in a downpour. Luckily, we were next to the kid's favorite spaghetti spot. So good that Bryson will eat his large plate and then Scarlet's leftovers too.

Saying goodbye to our Escuela Mexicana teachers. Mine were Paula (here), Aura, Adely, Alex, Gerardo. Bryson's were Karen and Alyn. Scarlet's was Aracely.

We were so lucky that our homestay had an art studio across the street. We spent the last week doing a clay project made of mud. Bryson and Scarlet both made bowls.

Our teacher Paulette, a teacher at the public school who teaches art to middle schoolers.

We also did art projects at school, too. This one was to create our own version of lanterns, without the fire.

Scarlet with her teacher, Aracely.

Where should we have our goodbye dinner? Of course, it has to be Sushi Ball. Scarlet loves the miso ramen. Bryson can eat a ramen and a sushi roll. We probably went to this place 3 times a week!

After getting ice cream (of course!), we celebrated our last night with an Estudiantina. These are students who join musicians and we walk around the town together singing Ciel Lito. We also go through the alleys including the alleys with the famous Beso alley, where the lovers were caught by her father and then he killed his daughter (boo!).

Senora would kill me with this photo. She didn't want me to take it in the first place, but I neglected to do at least two shots to make sure her eyes were open. But we don't want to forgot Senora Theresa who took such good care of us, talked drivers into doing custom tours for us, made Scarlet and Bryson's favorite foods (Scarlet's mac and cheese and Bryson's el dorado tacos), and stayed up late for us when we came home past our normal time. She was so awesome!

Bye Bye Guanajuato!
