What’s Happening in 1-Guss
Reading: We are continuing to learn about characters, setting, problem, and solution.
Word Study: We are continuing to learn about long a. We have started learning about abc order.
Writing: In Writer’s Workshop, we discussed what writers do when they’re done. Writers reread their story, add illustrations, and start a new story. The class also learned that good writers stretch out their words, a strategy for spelling unfamiliar words.
Mathematics: We are learning about the value of each coin and the dollar. We discussed what we noticed about each coin and the dollar. We also learning how to count coins and using different coins for a specific amount of money. For example, we can make 20 cents with two dimes, a dime and ten pennies, 20 pennies, 4 nickels, etc.
Science: We are continuing to learn about forces. We sorted objects into those which require a push to operate, those which require a pull, and those that need both. We are also read about energy.
