The third day we were in San Sebastian, Scarlet met Martina. Her mom (Emily) is from Brazil, and they moved here 5 years ago. Scarlet loves Martina and their dog Blass and Kookie, her brother.
We visited an outside art exhibit called El Peine del Viento ("The Wind Comb"). It's 3 sculptures, each weighing 9 tons.
San Sebastian has some of the best beaches. This one has a playground!
Scarlet made her own popsicle using yogurt and muesli and some chocolate then putting it in a cup and freezing it.
I have gotten into the habit of eating carrots straight up, unpeeled (but washed!). Scarlet is trying it.
Practicing before we go out. Lucky Scarlet had private surf lessons. She had a record of 18 stand-ups in one hour. Let's not talk about my record :)
Scarlet also met Lillian (and her brother George) from Chapel Hill. Their dad (James) is lovely and has been coming with the kids to San Sebastian each year for the past 5 years.
At the Science Museum on a rainy Sunday.
We did a virtual copper mill ride.
Scarlet won second place in the hanging contest. She probably would have won first but an older girl came in and cheated by hanging with her legs.
I have not had good luck with buses. Took the wrong bus, then finally got on the right bus but got off on the wrong stop. Credit to Scarlet for hiking up half a mile a pretty steep hill to get back.
We were an hour late for the game!
Then I missed the bus back and finally caught the right one home. Another extra hour. Decided to thank the kids for their patience with ice cream popsicles. You have the option of covering them with a sauce (like chocolate) and then more treats on top of that (like sprinkles).
San Sebastian had a big festival that weekend, so we were able to check out an outdoor concert.
Heading to Hondaribbia. Thank goodness our Spanish teacher let us know to take a boat out to see Hondaya, which had a beautiful beach.
I did not plan very well with food and worried I wouldn't be able to get Scarlet anything for dinner. Caved and got us some churros. Later was able to get some french fries and omelette for dinner (kind of better?)
Play date after surf lessons.
Scarlet has different activities at Spanish camp everyday ranging from cooking to crafts to beach day to playground to science museum, aquarium, or circus time.
This day it was art day.
We headed with the school to see an art exhibit called Hondalea.
Hondalea has a copper exhibit based on the tides.
We were able to have a short visit with Auntie Tina who lives in Spain.
I'm proud to have made this Filipino dish - eggplant and pancit.
Spanish camp cooking day - they made chocolate custard.
Scarlet is making us dinner while I am in meetings. Thanks Scarlet!
