Video: Bryson's K-1 Team Places 7th in Chess Nationals, Nashville

One minute I am telling Coach Ferai that we unfortunately won't be going to Chess Nationals, "Next year, maybe..." I tell him. And then next minute, I am telling Alex, "So we are going to Chess Nationals," and I'm booking flights to Nashville.

This was hard core chess parents galore who didn't leave the Gaylord complex all weekend. Alex and I though switched off and checked out the Johnny Cash Museum, Rolling Stones Exhibit, Country Museum, downtown Nashville, Musicians Hall of Fame, and Vanderbilt University. Afterwards, we also visited the Grand Osprey. (Poor Alex tried to go to a concert one night, but he ended up only seeing the last few seconds of the last song - the chess dinner at Dave and Busters went that late!)

Oh right - chess! There were 26 Hunter kiddos who headed to this event with 5 coaches (three! of them Grand Masters and two of them who had won Nationals). Bryson surprised us by placing in the top 4 of the K-1 students and together, they placed 7th in the K-1 Open Championship.

Alex is already talking about going to Nationals in Orlando in December. People are saying that the K team is strong enough to sweep Nationals next year. Hmm...
