Mystery Trip Revealed

For the record, I am super lucky to have an awesome husband who plans the best mystery trips. This time, our trip was to Greenland! (Past Mystery Trips include: Oman, the Everglades, Panama, Dominican Republic, and Iceland)

Itinerary Overview (I am trying to do a better job at logging this since I can't trust my memory):

Day 1: Rejkyjavik, Iceland overnight

Day 2: Narsasuaq, Greenland - Start of 3 day hike on unmarked trails to the glacier

Day 3: Glacier Hike (spot arctic hare and 2 rams)

Day 4: Back to Narsasuaq to meet guided kayaking group (international with Germany, Russia, France, Sweden, Argentina, and Spain represented - we spent one night in our teepee group tent singing national anthems)

Day 5: From Narsaq, start kayak trip http://tasermiutgreenland.com/package/kayaking-greenland/

Day 6: Take zodiac boat to Qingaarsup island, where we will start the kayak expedition. We follow the coast along the ice covered fiord among the icebergs coming from Eqalorutsit glacier. We see our first seal. Camp at one of the Viking settlements in South Greenland.

Day 7: Naajaat Sermiat, first Glacier Front. See waterfalls and kayak among icebergs. Sail in Maniitsup Tunua fjord, surrounded by the peninsulas of Maniitsop, Niaqornap Nunaa and Nuulussuaq. Camp near Naajaat Sermiat Glacier Font. See our first caribou (reindeer).

Day 8: Sail around Akuliaruseq island (also named Caribou island) and along Qaleraliq fjord. Arrive at Qaleraliq glacier with its three glacier tongues nearly 10 km wide. Camp in a sandy beach and ascent to the base of Tasersuatsiaq lake and the inland ice sheet of Greenland.

Day 9: Glacier hiking along the last ice tongue and transverse cracks. Kayak up to the massive glaciers.

Day 10: After going around Maniitsoq Island we take a new route to the large Ikersuaq fjord, facing again the huge icebergs and ice arcs of the Eqalorutsit glacier. We see seals AND a humpback whale! Alex goes swimming in the iceberg water at 0 degrees. Yikes!

Day 11: Back to Qingaarsuup, Narsaq town, for a family dinner with our new international friends.

Day 12: Zodiac boat to Qisarsuaq and hike up to glacier, camp at glacier (one of our best camp spots ever).

Day 13: Hike on lake past icebergs.

Day 14: Hike back through the sheepmeadows to Qisarsuaq, zodiac boat back to Narsarsuaq, then flight back to Reykyjavik, overnight.

Day 15: Reykyjavik museums.

Day 16: Blue Lagoon, flight back to NYC.
