Canyonlands Canoe Trip, Utah

Thanks to Alex for planning a weeklong 55 mile back country canoe trip through Canyonlands.

We kicked off the trip with a windy storm and were forced to stop at a sandbank. The wind was so terrible that we couldn't keep the tent down. Unfortunately, we also had a tent that was perfect for stargazing. But that also meant that the sand poured through the tent all night.

We woke up the next morning expecting the kids to be cranky. But nope! They were excited about the adventure ahead. Which included having an Easter Egg hunt on the bank.

The weeklong canoe trip was awesome, though not easy. Hot temperatures on the water. Windy. But beautiful with hikes interspersed with the paddling. We even got to see some amazing petroglyphs.

We also did a 10 mile hike a couple miles up a steep hill. Pretty proud of Scarlet for making it through.

And to add to that, grand finale? How about a huge rainstorm that pounded on us for a couple hours as we got taken out by a boat. At least our boat didn't get overturned like the poor group who flipped over within an hour of getting out to the river. Whew!

But what to do to end the trip? How about dessert and a trip to Doughbird, the best donuts we've ever had - with vegan options too!
