40th Birthday: Steinway Tour

Surprise gift from Alex. He booked this a year in advance.

Fun facts - Steinways are played in 98% of concert halls. It was started by Henry Steinway in the 1850s back when pianos used to fall apart. He was a cabinet maker and used metal and fine cabinetry to keep the piano together. We got to see the different phases a piano goes through. They carefully pick the trees, cut and bend them into the size, and have special molds. It was interesting to see that even with the mechanical tools, there is a lot of human element to it. Each piano is different and has a personality. A great gift!
