Dear Friends and Family,
Happy Holidays! We hope you have had a fantastic 2023 filled with love and OMG adventures.
Check out our holiday card here (also attached), 3-min video here, and 1 second everyday here.
Here are a few of our OMG moments:
Bryson (11): In addition to joining the freestyle ski team, Bryson was psyched to get chosen to be on the NYC Gothams baseball team. Bryson is a pitcher, just like Alex. Bryson also launched Latin Americans Who Inspire Us with Analiza.
Scarlet (7): We were excited that Scarlet got into TAG (Talented and Gifted School for Young Scholars) in NYC, though sad to leave our community at Lower Lab. Both Scarlet and Bryson love chess and recently competed at chess nationals in Orlando.
Analiza: After three years of working on my book, I’m excited that next month I’m launching The Myths of Success: A Woman of Color’s Guide to Leadership. It’s based on research, my personal experience as a leader, interviewing almost 100 amazing leaders on my podcast Women of Color Rise, and two decades of coaching diverse leaders. You can get Chapter 1 free right now here. I’m also launching a 6-week online cohort program for women of color leaders in 2024 (see here).
Alex: Outside of his work on Mizuho’s Treasury team, Alex was able to do some big climbs (ice climbing in New Hampshire and alpine rock climbing in the Tetons) and organized our family's first multi-day backpacking trip. In the Tetons, his rope was shredded in the middle of a climb by a huge boulder that fell as he was pulling the rope! Thank goodness no one was hurt.
A few other OMG moments:
- OMG #ItsACroc – Ever want to get face to face with a crocodile? Analiza signed up Bryson and her for a dive trip to do just that. Except at the last minute, it got cancelled. So Analiza scrambled to find a replacement. This one didn’t have guys with spears to protect you. Maybe that’s why it was cheaper? Here's a trip report in case you want to go too.
- OMG #LostOnVolcano – In Nicaragua, Analiza and the kids volunteered with equinotherapy, spaying/neutering dogs and cats, and feeding monkeys and birds. We also did a steep hike using ropes to get us up to the edge of Volcan Masaya, an active volcano. We enjoyed the sunset and then the darkness that brought out the red lava. Then we realized - Scarlet was missing! We shouted and looked everywhere for her. No Scarlet. After an hour of panic, we finally found her. She had fallen and thought we had left and starting running to catch up but got stuck in the dark. Luckily, she spotted some people up ahead and made friends with Nicaraguans who helped get back to safety. Yikes! Here’s a trip report in case you want to check out our amazing Spanish school which is also a rescue center.
Wishing you fun and safe OMG moments for 2024!
Warmly,
Analiza, Alex, Bryson, and Scarlet
